Positiva Records

The most consistent UK label for commercial dance music throughout the 1990s and early 2000s? Judge for yourself with this Spotify playlist.

It’s hard to make a case against Positiva Records thoroughly deserving that title. Rarely would even a week pass without some new promo release or remix pack coming through my letterbox (not literally, of course, that would be very stupid. I collected them from the sorting office in Chesterfield. Although once a very kind postman sought to save me that trip and actually folded a 12″ single in half so it would get through the letterbox. Pillock).

These are my top 50 or so favourite records featuring the distinctive Positiva artwork. The fact that I had to make it a top 50 tells you something about the enduring quality of their output. Whether it’s the trancey goodness of BBE and Binary Finary, the infectious gospel sounds of Barbara Tucker and Joe T Vanelli, or the chart-friendly singalongs from Moony and Room 5 featuring Oliver Cheatham, this playlist literally has something for every 90s club kid.

Even the Vengaboys.
